About Mason Cash

The English pottery that eventually became Mason Cash originates in the early nineteenth century in Church Gresley, a village in Derbyshire. It was known for Meashamware, a distinctive brown pottery that probably acquired its name because it was popular in the nearby Leicestershire village of Measham.

Mason Cash handcrafted British ceramics from Pacific Merchants can be traced back to Derbyshire, England, circa 1800.  The name 'Mason' comes from a Master Potter, "Bossy" Mason who was running the pottery at the time it was acquired by Tom Cash in 1901. Cash renamed the company Mason Cash & Co. It was later incorporated by his son, in 1941, a period during which the firm diversified into bowls for cats and dogs – a product range for which Mason Cash became known around the world.

Mason Cash ceramic mixing bowls are made from 'white and cane' glazed earthenware sometimes known as 'yellow ware' from the color of the local clay. The design has hardly changed for over a hundred years, although the modern version has leadless glazes that conform with California Proposition 65, the most strict of requirements in the country.

Glazed stoneware is the ultimate material for mixing bowls. An efficient mixing bowl needs to be heavy to counter the tendency to move during manual mixing. The traditional Mason Cash raised pattern helps to make the bowl appear less heavy than it actually is, and its subtle relief enhances the bowl's timeless elegance.  The Mason And Cash bowls have substance, so they don't slide about as you mix, are sturdy and retain warmth better than steel or glass. The mixing bowls can be used in the oven and microwave, and are safe in the freezer and dishwasher.

Cooking icons like Julia Child and Martha Stewart have regularly used Mason Cash mixing bowls and pudding basins. With a full array of sizes, a unique best-seller is the impressive 14 inch diameter Mason Cash bread bowl. Oversized proportions make it perfect for kneading bread and preparing favorite family recipes.  When finished, this impressive example of Mason Cash pottery is beautiful all year long as a centerpiece for holding fresh fruit.

Mason Cash bowl sets represent a return to fundamentals: kitchen essentials crafted with pride, and meant to last a lifetime.  The mixing bowls raised outside pattern hasn’t changed in more than 100 years.  The raised pattern was designed as an ergonomic feature so the bowl would not slip when hands are wet or slippery.  The pudding bowls and pudding basin sets have been unchanged for more than 200 years. Simplicity of design gives Mason Cash bowls and pudding basins a timeless beauty that is as at home in an upscale dining room as it is in a country kitchen.  There’s a nostalgic feeling towards Mason Cash and each handcrafted piece is an heirloom that you can hand down to your children.
